Antwerp impress on Day 1 of 3x3 World Tour Lausanne Masters

LAUSANNE (Switzerland) - Red hot Antwerp (BEL) finished undefeated on Day 1 of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Lausanne Masters on August 20, 2021.

THE TEAM

After winning both the Lipik and Potiers Challengers earlier this year, Antwerp (BEL) proved why they are on everyone's lips after finishing undefeated in pool play.

The Belgians defeated first World Tour 2020 runner-up Liman (SRB) 20-14 and then Gagarin, featuring 2  Olympic silver medalists from the Russian Olympic Committee, 21-13.  'Must-watch TV' Thibaut Vervoort led the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Nick Celis with 12. 

Will they be able to win their first-ever World Tour Masters in Lausanne?

ALSO UNDEFEATED

Riga (LAT), Ub (SRB) and Lausanne Masters 2019 winners NY Harlem (USA) also had a perfect record and topped their respective pools.

THE GAMES

Alexandria (EGY) shocked German champions Aachen Der Stamm (GER) in the qualifying  draw (21-20) with a Tissot buzzer-beater courtesy of 3x3 Africa Cup 2019 MVP Mido Mohamed  aka 'Cairo Irving'

The Egyptian team failed to advance to the Main Draw of the competition after losing to Moscow Inanomo (RUS)

San Juan (PUR) came back from a 5-point deficit with 25 seconds to the end of the game to score back to back Tissot buzzer beaters and advance to the quarter-finals, knocking out Los Angeles Masters 2019 winners Princeton of the competition 

 THE PLAYERS

Kidani Brutus (NY Harlem)  led all players in scoring (17 points) 

Kostja Mushidi (Aachen) had the highest player value of all players (22.2) and had 9 highlights

Olympic gold medalist Karlis Lasmanis (Riga) scored 15 points. 

Dominique Jones (NY Harlem) was dancing on the Enlio court as he had 9 highlights.
