Nauris Miezis named FIBA 3x3 World Tour 2020 MVP

RIGA (Latvia) - Nauris Miezis was named MVP of the 9th edition of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour by his peers on December 30, 2020.

The jury of 108 players who competed at the World Tour in 2020 rewarded the 29-year-old Latvian after a stellar season, which saw him win 2 individual awards (Doha Masters and Jeddah Final MVP) and 3 team trophies with Team Riga (Hungary and Doha Masters, Jeddah Final).

Miezis elevated his game in the money time this season. He led all players on the Tour with 3 different Tissot buzzer beaters (nobody else had more than one), including one for the ages to defeat Liman in the championship game in Jeddah.

The number two 3x3 player in the World (he is set to become number one  again when the rankings are unfrozen on April 1, 2021) led the World Tour in total Player Value, highlights, key assists and - as said - Tissot buzzer beaters. He was also second overall in scoring.

The four players who won an MVP award on the World Tour this season and the number one in player value were shortlisted for the trophy. Here is the final ranking:

1. Nauris Miezis (Riga, LAT) 37% of the votes
2. Karlis Lasmanis (Riga, LAT) 22%
3. Stefan Kojic (Liman, SRB) 15%
-   Stefan Stojacic (Liman, SRB) 15%
5. Ignas Vaitkus (Utena Uniclub, LTU) 11%

The Latvian star succeeds "Disco Domo" Jones, Dusan Bulut and Stefan Stojacic, who won the award in 2019, 2018 and 2017 respectively.

Exciting, urban and innovative, 3x3 is inspired by several forms of streetball played worldwide and is considered the world’s number one urban team sport. Steered by FIBA, games see two teams of three players face off on a basketball half-court.

It was played successfully for the first time in international competition at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and since then has benefited from the launch of a yearly city-based FIBA 3x3 World Tour and national-team FIBA 3x3 World & Continental Cups.

On 9 June 2017, 3x3 was added to the Olympic Program, starting from the Tokyo Games.

Wilson is the Global Ball and Apparel Partner and Tissot the Official Timekeeper of FIBA 3x3.
